David Gundermann Biography

Biography

David’s interests and passions evolved as he progressed through the biomedical science program. Despite early aspirations of becoming a physician, researching the burning questions in exercise and metabolism became the focal point from then on. David found a laboratory focused on muscle metabolism at the University of Florida where he completed his M.Sc. in the department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. From there, the research search criteria became even more specific and so he pursued his Ph.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch in the department of Nutrition and Metabolism where he studied translational human research of muscle metabolism using sophisticated state of the art techniques to study the mechanisms of muscle growth. After completing his Ph.D. he pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin studying molecular physiology of muscle gaining enhanced cutting edge molecular training. Finally, David completed the full spectrum of muscle research by conducting large-scale clinical research of aging muscle at the Institute of Aging back at the University of Florida. After pursuing every aspect of muscle metabolism research, David decided he would be more fulfilled by applying his expertise and passions directly to an exercise and nutrition industry setting. For that reason, he thought the nutraceutical industry would be an excellent fit and so he returned back to Guelph and took the position of Chief Scientific Officer at Blue Star Nutraceuticals.
