UGAA Message - April 2018

Welcome to the alumni family!

The University of Guelph has been through much rejuvenation since we were students, however, the one constant since the three founding colleges were established is a commitment to excellence, innovation and service to society.

This month we'll welcome another group of accomplished graduates to our 155,000-strong alumni family. As they move forward with their lives and careers we hope they will reflect back to graduation day and student life with fond memories.

As graduates ourselves, we have walked in those footsteps. We are U of G alumni for life and our continued presence at U of G exists through many projects and initiatives launched or funded by our Alumni Association.

Over the last few years, the UGAA endowment fund has contributed to the campus fabric through donations to the Gryphon statue that now greets students and visitors, and an alumni lounge and climbing wall in the new athletics centre. This June, we will proudly unveil our new Alumni Plaza — a dedicated space at War Memorial Hall where we can publicly and formally recognize accomplished University alumni.

Through participation in our affinity partner discount programs, participation at events or programs offered by the UGAA, and generous personal donations, the University of Guelph Alumni Association raises funds that contribute to the vibrancy of the U of G in the form of these unique projects.

The UGAA supports the First-Year Seminars program — an opportunity for students to participate in a small-class setting and hone the skills necessary to succeed at University. We also visit first-year students in the House-calls program and share personal experiences to help students coping with the stresses of university life.

We are all who we are today, in no small part, because we embraced the challenges and successes during our time at the University of Guelph. Congratulations to everyone, and to those who are graduating this month, “Welcome to the club!”

- Doug Campbell, Director, BA '88
