Masters in Cyber Security

The School of Computer Science (SoCS) is creating a new graduate program in Cyber Security to address the growing need for trained leaders in this field. Funds will provide support for new faculty, hardware and software, and scholarships to attract the best and brightest students.

The total fundraising target for this initiative is $3.7M.

Impact

The cyber security landscape presents a growing worldwide menace, and the U of G has the opportunity to be a leader in developing people with the skills to combat these threats, protecting society. Currently there is a significant shortage of over 2 million cyber security positions globally and growing.

This program will help address this labour shortage and produce the industry’s next generation of cyber security leaders.

Goals

This program will provide students with the skills to take on leadership roles in challenging cyber security careers. It will also help grow graduate student enrollment, create new research opportunities for both students and faculty and raise the profile of the SoCS.

The MSc in Cyber Security program will support the following:

  • Chair, Cybersecurity - $1M
  • 1 administrative and 1 technical staff position to support the program
  • In-Kind hardware and software - $2M
  • Graduate scholarships- $150,000
