CEPS

Having a lasting positive impact on the world around us is core to the vision that motivates our world-renowned faculty at the School of Engineering (SOE).

With recognized expertise in the areas of water and the environment, sustainable energy systems, instrumentation design, resource and waste management, intelligent systems and automation, and food and bioprocess engineering, the University of Guelph engineering faculty strive to provide solutions to some of the most urgent questions facing our society today.

Through a truly collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to conducting research, our 55+ faculty and over 200 highly-qualified graduate students are collaborating in local, national and international partnerships that are changing the world in which we live.

Impact

Research chairs drive research and develop excellence for universities. They have the ability to create excellent programs that produce innovations in their given fields and attract top-tier students. They are integral in creating best practices, increasing publications and knowledge transfer.

The presence of these research chairs are critically important to attract the best and brightest to study in the SOE at the University of Guelph. Attracting these people and producing the next generation of highly qualified personnel is core to the vision for research at the university.

Goals

To help accelerate these research efforts the SOE is actively pursuing the establishment of research chairs. These positions have a significant and broad impact on an academic department. A chair position energizes research and grows graduate studies programs. The quality of research produced in these areas will advance our relationships with industry and other external stakeholders, boosting the profile of the school and the university.

Investment in this campaign will result in the creation of chairs in the following programs:

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Water Resources Engineering
    • Engineering Systems and Computing
    • Biological Engineering

Additional chairs in Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering are also in discussion.
