Honey Bee Research Centre Tour

Saturday June 21  |  9:00 am – 10:30 am

The Honey Bee Research Centre tour will emphasize the biology of bees and the positive effect they have on both the natural environment and our well-being. The tour includes an outdoor demonstration of beekeepers working safely with bees and an up-close view of the bees and their honeycomb. Transportation will be provided.
Meet at the Garney Henley entrance of the Athletics Centre.

Hidden Gems on Campus Walking Tour

Join us for a walk around campus and learn about four amazing spaces that you may not have visited before including: 1) the performing arts centre which is home to award-winning students in music and theatre, as well as research in improv; 2) Waasamowin and the reflecting garden in the Summerlee Science Complex which are part of work to Indigenize science at U of G; 3) the Phytotron Facility on the roof of the Summerlee Science Complex which is a greenhouse plant growth facility; and 4) a look inside the engineering makerspace and overview of our growing engineering programs which are evolving to incorporate AI and an environmental lens.

Ice Cream Technology Tour

Learn about the Department of Food Science’s enduring relationship with the ice cream industry through its 110-year-old ice cream course. Discover how ice cream is made, explore the processing facilities, and enjoy samples. The tour will be led by Professor Douglas Goff, who has taught the course for 37 years.

Arboretum Birdwatching Tour

Sunday June 22  |  8:00 am – 9:00 am

The Arboretum boasts a rich variety of habitats, providing a haven for diverse wildlife—especially birds! Join us prior to the “Farewell, See You Soon” Breakfast for a guided hike with birding expert Joseph Langlois, a recent University of Guelph graduate and current Arboretum Naturalist Intern. As we explore, we’ll search for our feathered friends, learning to identify them by sight and sound while observing their fascinating behaviors in their natural habitats. Binoculars will be provided for use.
Meet at the Hales-McKay Shelter (next to the Arboretum Centre and Arboretum parking lot).

Join us for a guided walk through the Arboretum’s botanical collections and learn about research and conservation activities. No rough terrain is involved but good walking shoes are recommended.
