Physics Highest Priority

First established in 1895 as part of the Ontario Agricultural College, the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph has a long history of teaching and research excellence, and you are an important part of that legacy. With more than 700 graduates (and counting), our alumni are improving life while working in government, industry, NGOs, and academia. As Guelph Physics approaches its 125th anniversary next year, it is a great time to reflect on our past successes and our exciting future.

Recently, the Department of Physics was described as one of the top physics programs in Canada based on its research productivity, teaching innovation, and undergraduate enrolments. We are very proud of this standard of excellence, and our core focus remains the same: to develop strong technical, analytical, and communication skills in our students through award-winning teaching and experiential learning.

This year, our department and the Physics and Astronomy Club attempted to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest “elephant’s toothpaste” ever made.

Your support of the Physics Highest Priority allows our department to create new opportunities that promote student success. Generous support of our alumni has contributed to the success of our current and future students through initiatives such as the upgrade of the University of Guelph Observatory telescope, rejuvenation of the equipment in our undergraduate teaching laboratories (especially the addition of experiments designed for students in the Biological & Medical Physics major), and support for many undergraduate scholarship funds.

Your support is vital to our success and I hope you will consider a gift to the Physics Highest Priority this year.
