Michael Jenkinson
BSc 63, MSc '67

Michael Jenkinson is everything that an alumni volunteer should be. He has demonstrated a level of loyalty and commitment to both the University of Guelph and the OAC through a lifetime of volunteerism.

Mr. Jenkinson obtained his undergraduate degree in agriculture from Guelph in 1963 and completed a Master’s degree in 1967. After graduation, Michael worked in the OAC Dean’s office and continued to do so for the next 30+ years. During his time there, Michael continued to support the University as an alumni volunteer.

Mr. Jenkinson’s commitment to volunteerism and to the U of G has been expressed both on and off-campus. He has been an active member of the OAC Alumni Foundation and the OAC Alumni Association. He also joined the University of Guelph Alumni Association’s board of directors from 1970-72. Additionally, Michael has dedicated the last 25 years to the role of Chair of the Scholarships and Awards Committee of the OAC Alumni Foundation; he has played an integral role in working with donors and award sponsors to maximize the opportunities to support youth.

In the community, Michael has been committed to the concept of lifelong learning and leadership development. He has given signal service to 4H and has been involved in organizations such as the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP), Ontario Institute of Agrologists, Guelph-Wellington Men’s Club, Guelph Rowing Club and the Canadian Executive Services Overseas (CESO).

Mr. Jenkinson’s dedication to agricultural education was highlighted in 2004 when he travelled to Bolivia as a volunteer with CESO to assist the Bolivian Government with agricultural curriculum reform at several universities. More recently, he travelled to the Philippines, again with CESO, for a two-month assignment.

Years of dedication to the OAC and the University of Guelph, along with his commitment to volunteerism, have made Michael an invaluable member of the University community.

The University of Guelph Alumni Association was pleased to present G. Michael Jenkinson with the 2007 Alumni Volunteer Award.
