Dr. Tricia Bertram Gallant is an influential scholar, advocate, and leader in the international movement to promote academic integrity in higher education. After graduating from the University of Guelph with a BA (Psychology) in 1994, she received an M.Sc. (Rural Extension Studies) in 1999. Later, she attended the University of San Diego, to pursue a Ph.D with a specialization in higher education leadership.

Dr. Bertram Gallant’s experience working in higher education began at U of G, where she was employed with Career Services and Cooperative Education Services. At University of San Diego, she worked in the School of Education (now the School of Leadership & Education Sciences), the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Residence Life. Since 2002, Dr. Bertram Gallant has been a leader in the international academic integrity movement as a Board member and Council Chair of the International Center for Academic Integrity (housed in Clemson University). And in 2006, she became the Academic Integrity Coordinator in the Office of the Executive Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, at the University of California, San Diego, where she has established a widely respected Academic Integrity Office that serves as a model for other institutions.

Dr. Bertram Gallant is a highly regarded academic integrity speaker, consultant, author and practitioner, having worked with universities, colleges and high schools in North America and around the world. She has extensive experience in developing academic integrity procedures and policies, working with stakeholders on creating a culture of integrity, inspiring campus interest in and commitment to addressing integrity and ethics, managing a centralized office for academic misconduct complaints, advising faculty on teaching and classroom management, and teaching students about academic integrity. Dr. Bertram Gallant has been featured on CBC’s Sunday Edition, as well as on CNN and the San Diego public radio station.

Dr. Bertram Gallant’s scholarly contributions include book chapters, articles (in such journals as the Journal of Higher Education, the Review of Higher Education, and the Canadian Journal of Higher Education), and books. She is the author of Academic Integrity in the Twenty-First Century: A Teaching and Learning Imperative (Jossey-Bass, 2008), co-author (with Stephen Davis & Patrick Drinan) of Cheating in School: What We Know and What We Can Do (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009), and editor of Creating the Ethical Academy: A Systems Approach to Understanding Misconduct and Empowering Change in Higher Education (Routledge, 2011).

Dr. Bertram Gallant’s accomplishments and outstanding contributions to her profession and community are truly remarkable. It is with great pleasure that the University of Guelph Alumni Association names Dr. Bertram Gallant as the recipient of the 2011 Alumni Medal of Achievement.
