Thomas graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours B. Sc. in Biochemistry and a minor in Psychology. He has also received a Foundations of Leadership Certificate and completed a number of courses in Human Resource Management. While attending the university Thomas was a lifer on campus! He was on Hall Council his first year and spent the next four years as a Residence Assistant, Senior Residence Assistant and Senior Hall Programmer for Student Housing Services. Prior to his final year on campus, he worked as the Residence Life Staff Summer Assistant where he worked with Residence Managers planning RA Training Week. While a student, Thomas also volunteered on the Student Judicial Committee, with the Central Student Association, Campus Walk and The Office of Diversity and Human Rights.
After many years in the private sector, Thomas worked at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in Sault Ste. Marie and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) in Guelph. He was the Issues Coordinator in the Research and Corporate Services Division and then Senior Policy Advisor in the Deputy Minister’s Office. Thomas currently is the Manager of Policy and Issues with the Beef Famers of Ontario based out of Guelph.
Thomas has been active in the sport of soccer as a player and coach and in the theatre community while living in the Soo having produced numerous award-winning plays and highly acclaimed musicals. In his spare time, he enjoys running, volunteering, and attending live concerts and theatre productions.
