Support Expertise for the Arboretum

Students at Arboretum

Details

OAC

The University of Guelph Arboretum is the largest and most comprehensive nature sanctuary of its kind in Ontario. We are seeking $300,000 over five years to create a part-time curator role to continue its conservation and preservation efforts.

Impact

Additional expertise will ensure that the Arboretum and its collections are maintained; that a focus on environmental preservation continues; and to assist with raising the profile of this valued and beautiful University and community resource.

The Arboretum sets the University of Guelph apart from any other university in Canada. It is an attraction and a benefit to our students, faculty, staff and community. Support for a curator will help our vision of transforming the Arboretum into a visitor’s destination; a space used more by and invested in by all.

Goals

Having an experienced curator onsite will help to maintain and enhance the physical space of the Arboretum, increasing the experiential learning opportunities for students and the community.

The curator will:

  • Provide students with unique educational field opportunities
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the Arboretum collections of plants, trees and flowers
  • Serve the community and share knowledge with outside organizations
  • Promote the Arboretum as a place for discovery, teaching, research and special events
