How has your job been impacted by COVID-19?

At the Climate Corporation, I manage a team of activation specialists who help our farm customers onboard with Climate FieldView, a software platform for analyzing farm data. Now we are finding ways of helping customers activate remotely through phone conversations, video conference calls, webinars and sharing of digital resources.

How has your industry been affected?

While there has been some impact to traditional commodity demand and price, the agriculture industry has not been impacted in the same way as other industries — there is excellent demand for food, and farmers will continue to ensure the world is fed. The main impact has been on the way we conduct business — farming is built on strong relationships with face-to-face interactions, and those interactions have become shorter, more distant, and more digitized.

How do you stay busy or connected with family and friends?

My job almost seems busier during this period of self-isolation, but beyond that I am finding time for family bike rides and soccer with my kids. I’m also checking in with calls to family and friends who I don’t usually contact as frequently. .

What is the most inspiring thing you have witnessed in your community?

I’ve sensed the recognition that we are not in full control of our lives, and we have all had to slow down, spend more time on home based activities, and connect with those we love (even if it is remotely).
