How has your job been impacted by COVID-19?

I work for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in the Enforcement Branch’s Provincial Communication Unit in Sault Ste. Marie. While many of my colleagues are working remotely, our unit is required to deliver critical services, so we continue to attend work in person. We ensure physical distancing and the workplace is cleaned twice daily. We have been taking part in bi-weekly conference calls instead having monthly staff meetings in person

How do you stay busy or connected with family and friends?

I have been staying active with long walks outside. Now that the weather has warmed up, I have been working out in the yard getting the vegetable gardens and flower beds ready which I find very meditative.

What has inspired you the most in your community?

As an active member of the arts and culture scene in my community, I coordinated an online event called Come Together Sault Ste. Marie for SooToday.com. On April 23rd eighteen entertainers from across a broad range of styles and genres recorded their own performances along with messages of hope from frontline doctors and elected officials. During the livestream event, viewers were encouraged to donate to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Emergency Fund or to the Algoma Community Foundation in support of several front-line local agencies. It was amazing that so many artists and musicians were willing to contribute their time and talent for such a great cause! The event was a financial success raising $17,700 but more importantly, it brought joy and entertainment to those staying home and staying safe!
