The University of Guelph is increasing awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) among thousands of girls and women, as well as supporting the inclusion and retention of women in STEM through student-focused programs. In November 2022, a series of initiatives was launched under the umbrella of the Doody Family Chair of Women in Engineering to help close the engineering gender gap.
U of G is grateful to the Doody family for supporting the new Chair for Women in Engineering.
Women make up about 26 percent of U of G's engineering undergraduates and 32 percent of graduate students, compared to national proportions of 24 and 27 percent, respectively. Approximately one in four of the school's 60 faculty members are women.
Boosting women's enrolment in engineering and retention are key goals of the newly funded chair.
