Grad Week 2023: Supported Graduating Students to Navigate Life After Graduation

Posted: Apr 05, 2023

Graduating from university can be an exciting yet daunting experience, as students enter the next chapter of their life. There are countless questions and concerns about what's next, and where to go for help. U of G Alumni understand these challenges and worked with Student Experience, the Central Student Association and the Experiential Learning Hub to bring together Grad Week initiatives to help with the transition, including:

Grad Launch

Grad Launch is a resource fair to help students navigate their way into their next chapter with ease. Grad Launch is an event that provides graduating students with the opportunity to speak one-on-one with representatives from various U of G services that will support them in their future endeavours.

The event aimed to provide graduates with a comprehensive guide to life after graduation, as well as an opportunity to connect with U of G services and learn about what they offer. The event features several services, including the University of Guelph Alumni Association, which educates students on what it means to be a Guelph grad. The Experiential Learning Hub is also present at the event, offering assistance in preparing for the workforce and providing on-spot resume critiques by peer helpers.

Last Lecture

The Last Lecture is a chance to reflect, celebrate, and be inspired by three lecturers; a graduating student, a faculty member selected by the graduating class, and a member of the alumni family.

The alumni lecturer was Brad Smith, a senior landscape architect who graduated from the U of g with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2006. Smith has worked across Canada on a variety of landscape architecture projects with government bodies, non-profit organizations, land developers, and private industry. He is a full member of several professional organizations, including the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects, the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects, and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
