#GryphonGifts Delivers Support to Students during Exam Season

Posted: May 03, 2023

#GryphonGifts was back in full force! This initiative, sponsored by the U of G Alumni Association (UGAA), had a tremendous impact on students during exam season. With a total of 729 gifts given away, this program provided much-needed support and encouragement to students during a challenging time.

The program had a strong physical presence, with 551 students stopping by Branion Plaza on April 19 to spin the wheel and receive a gift. Of these gifts, 100 were $10 gift cards, providing financial relief for students during a time when expenses can quickly add up. Another 200 students received sunglasses, perfect for enjoying the spring weather while taking a much-needed break from studying. Finally, about 250 activity books were given out, providing a fun and creative outlet for stress relief during exams.

The online component of Gryphon Gifts was also successful, with 178 students participating and 100 e-gift cards given away through an Instagram contest running from April 13 - 17, 2023. This allowed students who couldn't make it to the physical event to still receive support and encouragement during exams.

The impact of Gryphon Gifts goes beyond just the physical gifts themselves. Showing students that they have the support of their alumni family during a challenging time helps to foster a sense of community and belonging on campus. This can be especially important for students who may be feeling isolated or overwhelmed during exams.

Overall, the Gryphon Gifts initiative has had a positive impact on U of G students, providing both practical support and emotional encouragement during a challenging time.

The UGAA's commitment to supporting students is commendable, and programs like Gryphon Gifts demonstrate the important role that alumni associations can play in fostering student success.
